Attracting clients in a crowded market

Recruiting a top executive is a major event for any business, making the competition between the firms that specialise in executive search fierce.

To help win this competition, I co-led the first strategic SEO efforts at Russell Reynolds Associates. This involved working closely with an agency to understand required technical improvements, using SEMRush to build an SEO content strategy, and supporting internal teams to understand the purpose and practices of SEO.

The outcome was a documented plan of prioritised actions. This meant the digital team could start rectifying technical issues. Content creators throughout the business could follow SEO best practice. And I was able to adapt the most valuable pages of russellreynolds.com.

The first section of the website I revised was ‘Executive Search’. My keyword research highlighted several valuable long-tail keywords to add and more opportunities to link through to other parts of the website.

We quickly saw results, with search traffic increasing 20% in six months.
