The WeProtect Global Alliance brings together over 280 members from governments, the private sector, civil society and intergovernmental organisations to develop policies and solutions to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse online.
With such a complex set of members all with an important part of play, creating a unified understanding of the problem to be solved is a key purpose of the Alliance.
To that end, WeProtect has produced an annual Global Threat Assessment since 2018. This document ensures all members have the same understanding of the global nature of online abuse, so they can coordinate effective actions against it.
While the assessments are compiled by subject matter experts, I was asked to edit the first one to ensure it was impactful and accurate.
Since this first Global Threat Assessment, the Alliance has grown into an independent organisation that’s able to better work across international boundaries.
